OMNIASIG provides online education for 34 children from Malu Roșu, Ialomița County

OMNIASIG Vienna Insurance Group continues in 2020 its campaign "OMNIASIG for the BETTER" and ensures the education of future generations, in line with its strategy of social responsibility and involvement in the community. Through the partnership concluded with World Vision Romania, OMNIASIG offers support, once again, this year for the children from Malu Roșu village, Armășești commune, Ialomița county. The beneficiaries of the campaign are 34 children from grades V – VIII, who will receive tablets equipped with internet for the next two years. This action offers children the opportunity to learn from the distance, given the situation generated by the Coronavirus pandemic.

During 2019, OMNIASIG supported the renovation and furnishing of the same school and donated books to the local library. Given the pandemic context, we discovered that the main necessity for the children in Malu Roșu is to be able to continue their studies at home, online. Most of them do not have the possibility to buy a computer and do not have access to the internet, coming from disadvantaged families, without a fixed monthly income.

„Active involvement in such difficult times is the key to overcoming these challenges together as soon as possible. We set out to take action to improve the life of the community, and this year we adapted and found solutions to provide children with all the necessary conditions to be able to grow. For many of them it will be an even harder year, because they will have the National Exam, and we make constant efforts to create additional opportunities for their development ",
said Mihai Tecău, President of the Managing Board of OMNIASIG Vienna Insurance Group.

“Online schooling for all children is a utopia, access to education is extremely difficult especially in rural areas, where children do not have devices to learn from, or access to the internet. Any year lost in the education of these children not only keeps them in the vicious circle of poverty, but the cost of a generation that does not have access to education will be paid by all of us. We can only make a real difference in the lives of these children together, because in this difficult time, children need us adults. That is why we are very happy to have responsible, involved partners, such as OMNIASIG, who understand the especially long-term importance of education. We are lucky to have them with us, and the children who will now be able to learn thanks to them ",
said Mihaela Nabăr, Executive Director of World Vision Romania.

According to a study conducted by World Vision Romania in August 2020, only 64% of rural teachers held online classes, the rest sent exercises by phone, WhatsApp, Messenger or printed homework to the children, and over 40% of the students who live in vulnerable environments in the village, did not go folow online schooling. Mainly because over 55% of parents do not have a digital device for each student in the family, and 8% say they do not have any type of device that would allow their child acces to online education.

The education of children and young people is an important pillar for OMNIASIG, and the company is aware of the need for the opportunity for education in rural areas, because in many cases children cannot enjoy the opportunities offered by urban areas.
